After an
intensive training period we decided to compete in the New Zealand Championships
in Cornet Peak yesterday and today. It´s always exiting to race, and even this
isn´t a World Cup race, it for sure different from normal training.

  Taking
photos and writing reports on days with perfect sunshine and hero-snow is easy.
The reality is that many of the days on the hill is nothing like that. We have
been skiing in fog, rain, wind and soft snow for the last three days. It´s not
as pleasant as skiing under a clear sky, but who knows what will meet us during
the race season? If there isn´t an earthquake, the race will start.. Better be prepared!
A variation in visibility and snow quality is also a good tool to improve ski
balance.

  As long as
it doesn´t last for very much longer, I´m staying positive!

  This first
week "down under" has been spent in Cardrona ski resort. I´m really surprised
about the quality and size of this place. It´s one of the biggest resorts in
NZ, and we are lucky to have more slopes to choose from. The coaches spent two evenings putting water
on the steepest hill, it gives us a though challenge and a great arena for
testing and training.

After endless hours traveling we´re finally here. We
have had an awesome day at the mountain. It already feels like the trip was
worth it! Just have a look at the photos from today.

   Thanks a
lot for all the birthday greetings everyone! A nice surprise to read all the
emails and notes you have left me. I have spent the entire day on an aircraft
heading in direction New Zealand, haven´t had the chance to do much
celebration. But on the other side, a birthday at 40 000 feet, is something not
everyone gets to experience. I have to look at it that way.

  After 30
hours, we are only in Singapore. A long layover by the equator has been spent mostly
by the swimming pool, so I guess we can´t really complain. Another 9hour
flight, and we are golden. Travelling such a distance in addition to the 10
hour time difference, is pretty heavy. Winter snow and a nice bed will be a
good reward when we get there!

  After
skiing in a skidome for three days, it was really nice to get out in open air
on the glacier in Stelvio, Italy. The plan was to stay in the mountains 4 days
before heading home. We managed to get 2 days with great conditions, one day
with soft snow and fog and one day was canceled. Getting this much skiing done
in Europe at this time of the year, is something we have to be happy about.

In two weeks we travel to
the other side of the planet to experience winter in New Zealand. It will definitely
be the highlight of the training season!

  After a
good and long summer break, we´re finally back on snow. This time with a
different twist then normal. We´re skiing with a roof over our head, in
Wittenburg, Germany. Nice to don´t have to worry about the weather forecast for
once. We´re doing three sessions a day, which for sure will brush the sand off
our shoulders and prepare us for the tough months to come.

  There is
not much exiting stuff going on these days, therefore lacks the updates.

   Anyway, in the
beginning of this week I was in Oslo to join the team for physical training.
The rest of the guys are training together every day, since I don´t live in the
capital anymore, I was just there for a quick visit this time. Good to meet up
with the guys, combined with some great work out sessions. We are putting down
a great effort, and are going to become dangerous this winter!

  Enjoy the summer everyone!

I looked through my videos from the winter and found this clip. The video is from a downhill training in Beaver Creek, USA. To hook a gate in about 120km/h is nothing I recommend! But this time I caught a lucky break, came out of it with only minor injuries, and was able to race the next day.

          Today I
finally finished my last examination of this semester. Six hours of intense
economic work resulted in a academic performance I´m really happy about. What
the teacher thinks, is something else.. My effort coming in to the test has not
been the best, a lot of exiting stuff has been happening these last weeks,
which has made me evan more unfocused as a student..

We are back on snow, and will have five days of training at the summer ski facilities in Juvass, Norway. This is in the national park of Jotunheimen close to Norwegian highest mountain Galhøpiggen(2469m). So far we have had great weather, but very warm tempratures. The weekend supposed to be colder, and we hope for harder snow. Anyway, we are having some nice days at the office..

Since we finished skiing 2 weeks ago, I have had my hands full by
catching up at school. I study Tourism at the University of
Lillehammer, and did one examination last week, and another two days
ago. It for sure feels good to be productive also outside of the
slopes. One more exam in the beginning of June and I´ll be done for the
summer.

The 2009/10 season is over, but we are already well underway preparing
for the next. The last weeks we have been stationed in Hallingdal,
Norway putting down long hours in the hill. The conditions is
absolutely tremendous! We have been switching between the resorts in
Geilo, Ål and Hemsedal, only an hour's drive from each other. In this part of...
